The Aluminium Fire-Safety Layer in Fire-Rated Interior Film

The Aluminium Fire-Safety Layer in Fire-Rated Interior Film

Staged visualization of aluminium foil as a material concept, not an actual product cross-section.

Product literature for Neotec SAVE refers to a "metal fire-safety layer". We explain that structure here from the original certificate and the measured test values.

The fire-safety layer is the shared structure of the current KFI-certified lines. Neotec SAVE (35 colours) and the renewed Hansol Art-Eco line (20 colours) are built to the same structure, with an aluminium fire-safety layer, and both hold KFI quasi-non-combustible certification under the current criteria. The original Art-Eco line (66 colours) was certified under the previous KFI criteria, so the structure described below refers to the two current lines.

On the certificate

The "type" field on the original KFI certificate (No. 내장26-5, issued 30 June 2026) gives the build-up of a 0.19 mm self-adhesive sheet as PET film 0.02 mm / aluminium 0.07 mm / CPP film 0.07 mm / water-based urethane-acrylic adhesive 0.03 mm. The fire-safety layer is the 0.07 mm aluminium layer between the PET and CPP films, as recorded in the certification document itself.

The material's test results are documented as well. Total heat release measured 3.20 to 6.79 MJ/m² (limit: 8 MJ/m² or less), and incapacitation times in the gas toxicity test ran from 14 min 16 s to 14 min 24 s (limit: 9 min or more). The full set of values is in Inside a Korean KFI fire test report, and the original scans are in our certificates section.

Principle and the scope of the documents

Korean building regulations classify aluminium as a non-combustible material, so a metal foil inside the film can be understood as contributing to slower flame spread. It is a physical, layered approach, in contrast to PVC films on the market that rely on a chemical reaction of chlorine for their self-extinguishing behaviour.

The quasi-non-combustible rating rests on the whole material passing the test. The certification system has no recognised test that measures the contribution of a single metal layer, so the evidence is the measured performance of the material as a whole. The documents certify one fact: the material, built with a metal fire-safety layer, holds KFI quasi-non-combustible certification. That grade sits one step below non-combustible, whatever the classification of the aluminium inside the film.

Additional characteristics in the technical literature

The manufacturer's technical literature lists further characteristics of the metal layer, such as its heat-resistance temperature and its insulation and condensation-reduction effects. These sit outside the scope of the KFI test, so in consultations we keep certified performance (the measured quasi-non-combustible values) apart from literature characteristics (reference items). Torch demonstrations and model fire videos are useful reference for how the product behaves; for contract and inspection decisions, the KFI certificate and test report are the firmest evidence.

The patent's scope

Neotec's patent KR 10-1889615 covers an olefin sheet with a self-cleaning function: an anti-soiling, easy-clean surface. The patent backs ease of maintenance; the KFI certificate and the measured test values back fire performance.

What the documents show for each claim

Measured quasi-non-combustible test values Published in the test report (total heat release 3.20–6.79 MJ/m², limit 8 MJ/m²)
Contribution of the metal layer alone Shown through the whole material's measured results (the system has no separate test for it)
