"How long does the film last once it's installed? How should we clean it?" We hear both questions often, and care advice is easy to overstate. We answer from the manufacturer's specification first, and mark anything it does not cover as general principle.
In the specification
The clauses below, the ones that bear on care and storage, come from Hansol's specification for its quasi-non-combustible sheet; our English technical data sheet is a translation of that document.
Quality period. The specification gives at least five years of stable quality from the manufacturing date, and up to eight years when the recommended storage conditions are kept. The count starts at manufacture, so if you hold stock in rolls over long periods, the manufacturing date and the storage environment are the first things to check.
Creases and folds. Severely creased or folded areas may not return to their original state. Material stacked flat or stored bent picks up marks, and those marks reach the wall as defects. The basic practice is to store rolls upright, with nothing pressing on them.
Settling period. After installation, the specification allows a settling period of at least 15 days and, depending on site conditions, six months or more. Fine lifting in the first few days therefore cannot be called a defect straight away. If lifting remains once the settling period has passed, that is the point to talk to the installer.
Temperature. Initial adhesion is sensitive to temperature and drops sharply at 10°C and below, so the specification calls for warm air and a room held at 18–24°C during installation. Keeping the room from cooling down while the film settles is our own practice advice. A winter job where the heating stays off after installation runs that risk.
Planning curves. The material is CPP-based (cast polypropylene) and deforms little under heat, so it shows little shrinkage or warping after installation. With any film, demanding compound curves are planned as separate sections with overlapping joints. For maintenance, curves and corners are where lifting shows first, so inspections start there.
Soil resistance, as far as the documents go
The Neotec SAVE line we supply carries an anti-soiling surface patent: KR 10-1889615, "olefin sheet with self-cleaning function", held by Neotec. In the patent's terms, self-cleaning means rain washes the surface clean. SAVE is an indoor product, so the accurate reading for a wall is an easy-clean surface: dirt sticks less, and what does stick wipes off easily.
Outside the specification: general principles only
The specification has no clause on routine cleaning, neither detergent nor method. The guidance here is general practice for surface finishes and nothing more. A soft cloth is the baseline. Abrasive scourers and strong solvents can damage any surface finish and are best avoided. For a specific stain such as oil-based marker, a test on an inconspicuous spot comes first; if the result is unclear, ask us.
Where each recommendation comes from
| Item | Basis | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Quality period | Specification | At least 5 years from manufacture; up to 8 years with recommended storage |
| Storage | Specification, practice | Severe creases or folds may not recover (specification); store rolls upright (practice) |
| Settling period | Specification | 15 days minimum, six months or more in some conditions; inspect if lifting persists beyond it |
| Temperature | Specification, practice | 18–24°C during installation (specification); keep the room heated while the film settles (practice) |
| Routine cleaning | General principle | Soft cloth; avoid abrasives and strong solvents |
Installation quality settles much of the outcome before care begins. Our substrate guide covers the groundwork, and the technical data sheet lists the installation method step by step.
