Concrete Texture Film: Which Line for Which Surface

Concrete Texture Film: Which Line for Which Surface

Staged image. Colour: Stone Fog Grey (Storyfilm stone line).

Exposed concrete stays in demand, and film gets you there without plaster or curing time: an installer finishes a wall in a day. Before you choose, check one distinction in our range. The line with the most concrete and stone textures, Hansol Storyfilm, carries no fire rating.

The widest choice: the Storyfilm stone group

The Storyfilm stone group runs from light concrete tones such as Stone Dove White and Stone Fog Grey to darker stone, all in a PP self-adhesive film. A plastered or microcement finish needs several coats and time to cure; film goes on in a single visit.

Storyfilm is a decorative PP film with no fire grade, and that sets its boundaries.

  • Good fit: furniture and storage doors, fixtures, counters, and residential areas without a fire requirement.
  • Wrong fit: walls and ceilings that need a quasi-non-combustible or higher grade, such as those in public-use buildings and escape routes. A rated wall needs certificates at handover, and Storyfilm has none to give.

Walls that need a fire rating

Three options keep the concrete look on a rated wall.

  1. The Neotec SAVE stone group. The SAVE 2024 collection includes four stones (NSPE-ST2012 to ST2015) and one marble (NSE-ST2017) in the quasi-non-combustible line. NSPE-ST2013 is the dark grey concrete tone; ST2012, ST2014 and ST2015 are light stone tones. ST2014 ships from stock, and we make the others to order in project quantities. See the SAVE range.
  2. Grey solids. A concrete look rests on low-saturation warm or cool grey, and the grey solids in the certified lines carry much of that mood on their own.
  3. A split specification. Rated walls and ceilings go in the certified line, furniture and fixtures in Storyfilm concrete textures. Our commercial interiors guide applies the same split.

The fire grade in this article is the Korean KFI quasi-non-combustible certification. For the class your own code requires on a given wall, see our Class A and Euroclass explainer.

Three checks before you order

  1. The area's fire requirement. Wall and ceiling, or furniture and fixtures? Settle that first.
  2. The texture in hand. Concrete film relies on embossed relief, and a screen flattens it. Pick the tone on screen, then confirm the texture on a physical swatch through our enquiry form.
  3. The substrate. The same substrate conditions apply to every line.

For a marble or polished-stone look, see the stone texture film guide.
